Brimming with power, love, and wonder, MERRY CHRISTMAS, UNCLE SCROOGE! is a Broadway musical based on “A Christmas Carol,” the beloved story by Charles Dickens.
Benjamin Wolaver stars as Ebenezer Scrooge, reprising the role he first performed in the musical’s original 2017 production. Around him, the production brings Dickens’s unforgettable characters to life with a powerful cast, live music, and a sweeping original score.
This new telling rediscovers the heart of the original. Where past adaptations leaned on seasonal sentiment or preached against greed, Merry Christmas, Uncle Scrooge! unearths Dickens’s true message: a society is judged by how it treats its children — especially the poor and the vulnerable. In a world of “ragged” schools, child labor, and the poorhouse, Dickens wrote a tale that would not only resurrect Christmas, but redeem children.
That message still challenges us today. The breathtaking music of Merry Christmas, Uncle Scrooge!, by award-winning composer Bill Wolaver, with libretto and lyrics by Robin Wolaver, pulses with a truth that can’t be ignored: the Christ Child came for us — and we must be Christ to the children of the world.
